Taya's portrait

Taya Stapelfeldt’s Wisdom in Crafting Talks

To bring to life the stories of those behind the scenes at TEDxDaltVila, we’re kicking things off with Taya…

… a somatic leadership coach, mentor, and embodiment trainer for women entrepreneurs and coaches who has been part of Mia’s TEDxDaltVila journey since the very beginning. When they met around eight years ago, Mia was just starting to shape the vision that would become TEDxDaltVila as we know it today.

***

Taya has a bright presence—her face lights up, she is expressive with her hands, and there’s a deep sense of calm when you speak with her. We chatted about her coaching, TEDxDaltVila, and public speaking, and I found it fascinating to gain a deeper understanding of the process behind preparing for a TEDx speech. In Taya’s work, she supports others in building confidence, refining performance skills, and diving into self-development—all through the groundbreaking process of deeply exploring one’s essence and being.

Anna: As someone who knows very little about somatic coaching, can you explain what this means?

Taya:  Somatic coaching is really about harnessing all the intelligence that we have, such as intuition, instinct, how to deal with emotions, how to be connected to your being, our ability to be compassionate… everything. We activate all of this to create new visions, break through patterns, and reset the mind in a fully embodied way. My husband, Till Noethel, PhD, is a leadership coach in the corporate world and has always worked with people in some way who want to change the world. I learned a lot from him about our deepest essence—how to follow it, align with our purpose, and have a true impact on the world.

Taya explained her take on “somatic mastery” and how her work focuses on helping people reconnect with their true essence. She said that her clients connect to their body's memory of when they were pure, raw, free, and powerful. I began to see how Taya’s work had shaped the deeper, more spiritual aspects of TEDxDaltVila. Taya explained that she had been working with Mia on and off for eight years.

Taya: I work with very powerful people—or, let's say, successful people. High-achievers who go out and create something, just like Mia. She’s sent me to work with many of her family and friends because she truly understands this work, you know? It’s been accelerating her evolution—from being a mum to respecting every part of herself, from the most intimate to the highest-achieving parts. That’s what she’s been doing, and that’s why she started TEDxDaltVila. I believe we’re all born with a mission and purpose greater than just ourselves or our family—something we are meant to contribute to. That’s what I see again and again when I help people tap into their inner connection.

Anna: So you said you met Mia around eight years ago, and through her evolution, she then founded and created TEDxDaltVila. Was it through Mia that you first discovered TEDx, or were you already familiar with it?

Taya: I've been working with a lot of speakers, and thought leaders. With a lot of very successful women before, keynote speakers, influential entrepreneurs, TV hosts, actresses... That's always been very fascinating to me because actually I am terrified of public speaking. I do it all the time, but it does not come naturally.

I was very surprised, Taya comes across so confidently and articulates her ideas so effortlessly. As someone who turns bright red at the idea of speaking on a stage, I never would have expected someone like Taya to find it scary too. She pointed out that statistically, public speaking is one of the biggest fears of people worldwide.

Taya: That’s why I’ve always been so fascinated by it—finding out how to help others truly embody their voice. You’d be surprised, but many professional speakers feel completely drained after being on stage. By the end of the day, they go home feeling empty because they weren’t connected to their bodies while speaking. They weren’t connected to that life force energy that once flowed through them. But when they are connected, it feels like this energy is speaking through them—it’s energising. They finish the day feeling fulfilled, proud, and alive.

I was aware of TEDx, had read the books, and did my own speaker courses. I find it so beautiful and exciting because, in the end, we all have so much inside us waiting to be shared.

Taya described how, in the first phase of speaker preparation, challenges start to emerge.

Taya: Suddenly we are seen by so many eyes, by so much energy, getting so much attention and our biggest fears surface. It's almost as if when you're on stage and you're speaking about something that's personal and it matters to you, it suddenly brings light to your blind spot. That’s where I come in—to help transform that fear, take back the lead, and find their own voice so they can actually enjoy it. Because in the end, it’s the emotion that connects us to the idea.

Anna: How does someone prepare for that kind of fear when they're just practising with their coach in a private setting?

Taya:  It actually starts at the very beginning—when people are writing their script. Even then, they are on that stage in their imagination. That’s one phase. Some speakers struggle to pinpoint the essence of what they want to say because their thoughts are too scattered. Others hold back, so their script is too short or missing the magic.

So I don’t need to look for the fear—it’s already there. They come to me because they feel stuck, or the team can sense it. The script is Phase One. Phase Two is the speaking—allowing energy to truly come into your voice, finding your own rhythm, and fully expressing yourself.

And then Taya surprised me by saying that a TEDx talk is never really about the speaker.

Taya: It’s about the audience—making sure they can see themselves in what the speaker is saying. There is an element of fully owning your story, being seen and then really letting go of that ego bullshit and saying, “Oh my God I'm not even speaking about me in the first place.” Speakers are using their stories to touch the audience. A good story has elements that have to do with each one of our lives. If you stand there and just read your script, nothing's gonna happen. It won’t go viral.

Taya then shared the story of the first time she coached a public speaker in Ibiza—a woman who wasn’t in a great place when they started, but through the process, reconnected with herself before stepping on stage.

Taya: I think she she was able to secure a significant donation for her charity because you could feel that she had put all of her heart into it. She could connect the cause to, you know, the credit card. The ultimate goal is to activate people in some shape or form, whether it’s in their personal lives, financially, or through other types of support.

Anna: You mentioned these two key phases in coaching—it sounds like there must be a lot of back and forth between them, right? If Phase One is script writing and Phase Two is the actual speaking, how do these phases interact?

Taya: It’s literally a back-and-forth process. The TEDxDaltVila team handles most of the practical side—reviewing the script, setting deadlines, and making sure everything is on track. My focus is on the deeper energy flow.

In a way, I help create the artist, and then they express their message on the canvas. I find the hardest part of a TEDx talk is memorizing every word in the final stage—but when it’s right, you can truly bring back the essence and emotion. It feels like there are many more than just two phases, but in my opinion, these are the main ones.

Anna: What about those who aren’t preparing for a TEDx talk? How does this work apply to everyday life?

Taya: What we’re doing in somatic self-leadership coaching is about taking full responsibility for what you create. You can almost create a situation before it exists. In the TEDx case, we want to create the most impactful talk possible. A fully embodied talk, in connection with the audience. We do it from a very deep place, involving the energetics, the sensual energy and the voice. This is the same in your everyday life or you could argue it is even more important, right?

We list out the different situations in which this applies, and I find myself nodding, silently thinking about how these somatic principles could benefit my own personal experiences.

Taya: Whether you're tapping into the energy of an audience or just connecting with another person, it's always an exchange of energy. The body is incredibly honest, and what always comes to the surface is what’s most relevant for a person’s life at that moment. The mind is where we create our problems in the first place, right? We have to go deeper, beyond where the mind can go.

In the very first session, the body already reveals everything—it creates what I always call a ‘soul map.’ This map is revealed through the body, and from there, we move forward.

Taya creates a swooshing interpretation with her hands and we laugh.

Anna: That makes so much sense. Sometimes, you feel something but don’t know what it is—yet, without realizing it, you’re already transmitting it to those around you. Your body registers it before your mind does.

Moving on to TEDxDaltVila, for this third edition, you’re working with two of our speakers. How has that been?

Taya: It’s very energetic for me—holding space so that they can feel my energy and support. Coaching, to me, is a relationship. It’s about having someone who has your back, is fully on your team, and truly wants to bring out the best in you.

Anna: And if you were to compare a TEDx specific coaching to, you know, any other type of coaching or support that you're doing, what could you tell us is maybe slightly different?

Taya: My sessions never look the same. I use so many different tools, but it’s never about the tools themselves. We could be sitting, standing, moving, deep breathing—anything. The ‘how’ doesn’t matter as much as the experience itself. And at the same time, I am trained in amazing somatic coaching methods, and have over the years developed my own approach which has a clear framework.

With TEDx talks, however, there is one very clear goal, and we go deep into that before expanding into other areas.  How I usually work, especially with women, is using ‘energy spirals’—business, purpose, and impact; intimacy and connection; and motherhood, sensuality, and the dance between the masculine and feminine. All of these must work together in harmony.

By the end of the TEDx process, it’s not just the talk that transforms—it’s the person’s entire life. That’s the biggest difference—TEDx coaching is narrowed down for a specific mission, but its impact goes far beyond the stage.

Anna: I think everyone should read this interview to truly understand what goes on behind the scenes for TEDx speakers. It sounds incredibly transformative.

To wrap up, do you have any top tips for people reading this? Not just for those preparing for a TEDx talk, but for anyone interested in self-development?

Taya:  I just had an interview last night and I always dread these questions a little. You didn't necessarily ask it this way, but often I get: “Can you give us two practices?”

And I always reply by saying “it's not about the practice”.

I actually hate practice. I hate morning routines.

We both laugh, and I completely understand where Taya is coming from. I love that she stopped me in my tracks and gave me such a beautifully honest, refreshing response.

Taya: I’m exaggerating, of course—it’s totally fine to have practices and routines. I do them too! But the point is, it’s already in you. The decision isn’t about following a specific practice—it’s about choosing to go deeper within yourself.

We live in a society where, from the moment we are born, we are programmed to live life through the mind. That disempowers us. The key is to reclaim that inner power, to wake up and be your full self. There is a whole universe in the body that we don't learn about in school. It's very powerful stuff. And I find that is the better or more helpful answer than, you know, giving someone a routine or an exercise.

Anna: I love that. Your approach is all about turning inward, right? Stopping and truly looking inside yourself.

Taya: Exactly! All these “get up and do this” routines—drink your lemon water, and your green juice, do yoga while thinking about your detox plan—you just end up even more stuck in your head. This should be a given, living a healthy lifestyle. All of our qualities, our intelligences are already in us. They’re just waiting for us to wake them up even more and more.

I think for future generations, this will hopefully become more and more clear.

We wrapped up by comparing our conversation to how non-verbal autistic individuals communicate telepathically and how they are able to tap into different forms of consciousness.

This entire discussion opened my eyes to something I had never explored before. Taya’s passion and depth of experience shine through in everything she says, and she expresses it all with a beaming smile.

Taya by Masha Kart

Si te paras allí y solo lees tu guion, no va a pasar nada.

Anna: Me encanta.
